Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) measures extended until October 30, 2023
March 28, 2023Measures aimed at helping employers address the labour shortage that were first implemented last year will be extended until October 30:
- Permitting employers in seven sectors with demonstrated labour shortages to hire up to 30 percent of their workforce through the TFW Program, for low-wage positions;
- Maintaining the validity period of Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIA) at 18 months; and,
- Maintaining the maximum duration of employment for low-wage positions for a period up to two years.
As of April 3, 2023, the TFWP will also begin transitioning to an Online Portal as the primary method to submit Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) in an effort to speed up processing times.
