Nova Scotia government funding for licensed abattoirs and meat processors

February 14, 2023

The Nova Scotia government is providing another funding opportunity for the province’s licensed abattoirs and meat processors to upgrade their facilities. The government’s objective is to help grow the local food sector with a goal of having local food represent 20% of the food consumed by Nova Scotians. The government is hopeful that its investment will help the province’s licensed abattoirs and meat processors get more of their products into grocery retail stores and on the tables of Nova Scotians.

This announcement does not mandate grocery retailers to purchase product from the province’s licensed abattoirs and meat processors. The government is simply providing an opportunity for these businesses to upgrade their facilities in the hopes of being able to increase their business.
