P.E.I. to increase minimum wage

November 4, 2021

Despite the fact that the province’s Consumer Price Index remained flat between 2019 and 2020, the province will increase its minimum wage by 5.4% on April 1, 2022. The Employment Standards Board consulted with stakeholders – including RCC – during the summer of 2021. Despite RCC’s continued call for a predictable minimum wage adjustment, based on CPI for the previous year, the province will increase its minimum wage by $0.70 to $13.70. Unfortunately, COVID-19 case number remain at a level in Zone 1 (Moncton) and most of Zone 2 (Saint John) whereby the circuit breaker event will have to continue for at least another week. See press release.
