Saskatchewan Premier says no to National Day of Truth and Reconciliation holiday

February 14, 2023

With the British Columbia government announcing its intent to introduce National Day of Truth and Reconciliation this September, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe has restated that the province won’t be adding additional statutory holidays. Premier Moe believes that the day can remain significant, without making it a formal statutory holiday, citing that the province is already among the most statutory holidays of any province.

In Saskatchewan, Federal employees and those who work in federally-regulated sectors in the province receive it as a statutory holiday, as do City of Regina and City of Saskatoon employees. Last September, public schools were also closed across the province.
