An additional month of CECRA rent relief

June 29, 2020

For current information on relief programs, see RCC’s guide to Relief Measures by Region.

Earlier today, the Prime Minister announced an extension of the Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance Program (CECRA) to cover the month of July 2020 – in addition to April, May and June 2020 already covered by the program. While details of eligibility criteria have not yet been posted on the government’s own websites, RCC discussions with senior officials suggest good news as tenants who are already eligible for CECRA will not have to requalify for July 2020.

Those landlords whose tenants qualified for the CECRA based on existing program parameters will be able to apply (on a yet to be determined date) for the additional month based on having a 70% revenue decline for April, May and June without reassessing whether they continue to have a 70% revenue decline in July, 2020. Participation in the one month extension is voluntary; existing applicants to CECRA and new applicants will be able to opt for the July 2020 rent reduction.
