Nanaimo single-use bylaw to go into effect July 1, 2021

June 11, 2021

Members are reminded that the City of Nanaimo’s checkout bag bylaw banning single-use plastic checkout bags and mandating a fee of 15 cents/paper bag or $1.00/reusable bag (rising to 25 cents and $2.00 respectively on January 1, 2022) comes into effect on July 1, 2021.

Nanaimo has confirmed with RCC that paper bags compliant under Victoria’s bylaw will meet Nanaimo’s standard as well, and will alert retailers when information on messaging is available on the government site. More information on the bylaw can be found here.
