B.C. Invites Input on New Accessibility Standards

April 2, 2024

B.C. will release draft recommendations for Accessible Service Delivery and Employment Accessibility standards in May 2024. This follows the passage of the Accessible British Columbia Act in 2021. The stakeholder consultation will occur in June and July 2024. Two of the objectives of the standards directly impact retail stores: ensuring the process of buying goods is provided in accessible ways that ensure the inclusion of people with disabilities; and, addressing barriers including physical, communication, policy and attitudinal barrier many experience when accessing goods and services. RCC will review the draft standards from the Accessibility BC Act Standards consultation when they are released. The Ministry of Social Development is in the process of arranging webinars for June and July.
