Food industry leaders commit to tackle food waste in Canada
The food-retail industry takes the loss and waste of food very seriously. Wasted food is a cost to business, and is a contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Together with a few product manufacturers, several food-retail companies in Canada have committed to reducing food waste in their operations. Their commitment is to take measurable action to prevent and reduce food waste in their own operations by 50% by 2025.
The companies that have individually committed to this common action include:
- Kraft Heinz Canada
- Loblaw
- Maple Leaf
- Metro
- Save-On-Foods
- Sobeys
- Unilever Canada
- Walmart Canada
