Reminder to food importers: March 1, 2021 deadline for new Safe Food for Canadians licence

March 4, 2021

A reminder that importers of foods previously regulated by the federal government (e.g. meat, seafood, eggs, dairy) need to have a Safe Foods for Canadians (SFC) licence as of March 15, 2021.

As a result of RCC’s pandemic-related advocacy efforts last spring, this new requirement will not apply to manufactured foods (e.g. crackers, candy, beverages) for the time being. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has reiterated that they will provide notice for industry prior to applying to manufactured foods.
