Alberta moves a week sooner to next phase reopenings

June 11, 2020

Premier Jason Kenney has announced that the province will move to Phase 2 of Alberta’s relaunch strategy on Friday, June 12, a  week sooner than expected.  The second stage will include the reopening of more personal services, such as cosmetic skin and body treatments as well as massage therapy and movie theatres.  Restaurants will now be allowed to return to full capacity, however must limit seating to six guests per table. Indoor gatherings are now up from 15 to 50, and outdoors gatherings to a maximum of 100.  Phase 1 launched on May 14, 2020, and saw most  Alberta retailers allowed to reopen.

Alberta also confirmed the province’s State of Emergency will be allowed to lapse on June 15, 2020 given the light demand on the health care system.  Alberta’s Chief Medical Health officer’s orders are not tied to the State of Emergency, and will continue to remain in place as long  as necessary, as will  the retail sector guidance
