Retailers in Alberta asked to ensure special considerations for disabled shoppers

October 8, 2020

As a result of concerns raised by disability advocates that some disabled shoppers, who are unable to wear masks due to medical reasons, are being prohibited from accessing stores, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health has asked that retailers be mindful of the existing exemptions that have been factored into municipal facial covering bylaws. She has asked that when possible, special consideration be given to disabled shoppers to ensure they can access the products and services they require.
