Ontario announces new supports for small retailers

October 8, 2020

Ontario announced new legislation that will support small retailers as they continue to battle the impact of COVID-19 on their businesses.

Some of the key programs include:

  • Small businesses with fewer than 10 employees to get $1000 grant for PPE
  • The Digital Main Street program continues, with $2,500 for small businesses to get online and sell goods
  • “One window” access to information which will make it easier for retailers and other businesses to find information on new grants, business requirements, etc.
  • Restaurants can now permanently sell alcohol as a part of takeout orders

Additionally, the province indicated RCC’s proposal to allow retailers to deliver during off-peak hours, with no municipal noise by-law restrictions, will be tabled in front of the legislature.

For more information see RCC’s statement on this announcement and RCC’s Relief Measures by Region for more information on financial support available to retailers.
