RCC represents retail in House of Commons Committee on inflation

December 6, 2022

On Monday, December 5, 2022, RCC Senior Vice President, Public Affairs, Karl Littler, represented the retail industry in a House of Commons Committee on food price inflation.

RCC welcomes the House of Commons study of food price inflation, one that needs to be understood from the ground up, starting with competition throughout the food supply chain.

“One problem with Canada’s lack of modern experience with inflation is that some commentators are rushing to judgement when we would be better served by looking at the problem in all its complexities,” Littler told the committee. “When it comes to food price inflation, the issue needs to be understood, both figuratively and literally, from the ground up.”

Littler went on to discuss the unique confluence of events that have led to inflation including the war in Ukraine, extreme weather, soaring fuel prices, supply chain disruptions, and labour shortages.
