RCC statement following meeting with grocery leaders, Federal Ministers

RCC is pleased that grocery leaders and Ministers were able to participate in a constructive and informative meeting yesterday, September 18, 2023. Our members are always ready to participate in good faith dialogue about the food industry, inflation, and affordability. 
 
There was also alignment that any discussions on food prices must include all members of the complex supply chain. This is something that we have called for consistently, given that 70% to 80% of grocery checkout prices arise before the food even gets to Canada’s grocers. To that end, Minister François-Philippe Champagne has now committed to calling in these groups for discussions with respect to their role in food pricing.
 
There was a lot of ground covered in the meeting and we are going to take the time necessary to review those discussions with our members before commenting further.
