Customer awareness campaign for Sugar Sweetened Beverage Tax

August 16, 2022

Newfoundland and Labrador’s Sugar Sweetened Beverage Tax awareness campaign entitled Rethink Your Drink: Encouraging Healthier Beverage Choices was launched on August 11, 2022.

In-store communications related to the campaign are available on the Department of Finance webpage. RCC had been asking the Department of Finance for access to the campaign information. RCC members needed this access so as to ensure proper messaging in stores prior to the implementation of the sugar sweetened beverage tax on September 1, 2022. The government’s delay in launching this campaign means that some retailers will not have adequate time to convert the government messaging into the proper formats needed for display in individual stores.

RCC continues to work with its members and the Department of Finance to prepare for this tax which will be the first of its kind in Canada.
