Delay in changes to out-of-province milk limits in Newfoundland and Labrador for processors/producers

July 12, 2022

RCC has received confirmation from the Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador that the implementation of the regulation to lower the importation threshold of out-of-province milk from 5% to 3% per month will be delayed until February 1, 2023. This change to the importation limit was supposed to occur on August 1, 2022, and could have resulted in a shortage of lactose-free milk for consumers in the province. In the coming months, the Government and the Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador will work with fluid milk processors to hopefully come to an agreement regarding their ongoing disagreements over milk processing in the province.
