Fitting rooms with curtains can operate again in Ontario

August 21, 2020

After months of advocating, RCC is excited to inform retailers that the Government of Ontario has amended the rules for fitting rooms for all regions in the province now in Stage 3.

The amendment now states: Fitting rooms in a business may open if patrons are not permitted to occupy adjacent fitting rooms stalls at any one time. Please see the following link for more information: O. Reg 364/20, Schedule 2, Section 6.

This is a material difference from the previous rule, which noted the following: “fitting room stalls are equipped with a solid door that may be closed”. This means that fitting rooms are now allowed to open if they have either a curtain or a solid door, so long as two side-by-side fitting rooms are not occupied by a customer at the same time.
