PEI to Launch Paid Sick Leave Policy on October 1, 2024  

On Friday March 22, 2024, the PEI government announced its decision to initiate paid sick leave beginning October 1, 2024. Last November’s swift legislation passage will soon materialize into a policy allowing increasing sick days with tenure – one in the first year, escalating to three by the third year. The Bill makes no commitment for government to provide temporary financial support to help employers adapt to any increased costs from this government initiative. See press release.
