Draft residential recycling regulations released in Saskatchewan

May 17, 2022

Late last week the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment released the draft regulations and summary of proposed changes to The Household Packaging and Paper Stewardship Program Regulations. This regulation will see the current residential recycling system transition from municipality operated, to one that is fully funded and managed by industry, beginning likely in 2024.

RCC has had numerous shaping discussions with the government leading up to this release, and will be reviewing the materials in the coming days in preparation for further feedback. The Ministry will be participating in RCC’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Committee meeting on June 6, 2022, one of the many committees free for members to join.
