Retail Conditions Report Summer 2022

October 6, 2022

Each quarter, Retail Council of Canada surveys members from coast to coast to bring you the latest news on the retail industry's performance across Canada. The Retail Conditions Report provides members with valuable, real-time insight into consumer behaviour, best practices in retailing, trends and economic conditions.

Summer 2022

Talent retention & acquisition, dynamic customer behaviour take centre stage

Retailers deal with the changing nature of their workforce and a customer that has been changed in small and larger ways by the COVID era.

This report was developed from interviews of mid-and large-size retailers from September 6th to 9th, 2022. Our survey was comprised of 5,672 retail doors representing various retail formats and geographies. We looked at the periods of June to September MTD (month-to-date) from a high level, taking a deeper dive into August metrics and capturing
the September long-weekend period. The report's results capture sales and other metrics based on information supplied by retail respondents to the survey. We do not present the results as a statistically representative analysis but rather a retail pulse to help provide context around trends impacting the industry. Respondents from the gas, motor vehicles or grocery sectors are not included in our survey.
