WorkSafeBC releases preliminary 2021 assessment rates

On September 23, WorkSafeBC (WSBC) released This normally happens in July but was delayed by WSBC due to COVID-19. The average base rate remains the same but about 45% of employers will experience increases while 45% will experience decreases.
Members are cautioned that the assessment rate is not the only change impacting your assessment rates as of January 1, 2021. Due to the passage of amendments on August 14, 2020, the maximum assessable wages rise from $87,500 to $100,000 per employee. Accordingly, that would increase your assessment for employees earning over $87,500. (The information on the change to the Act is here.)
The General Retail base rate is rising 6% from 0.50 to 0.53, the Supermarket rate is also rising 6% from 1.01 to 1.07, Home Improvement Centre rate is rising 4% from 1.69 to 1.75, and, the Coffee Shop rate is decreasing 20% from 0.76 to 0.61. WSBC is asking employers to report and remit third quarter assessments on schedule: employers needing more time are asked to contact WorkSafeBC directly. (They had allowed employers to remit late for Q1 and Q2).
