Avian flu outbreak: CFIA provides industry notice, permit info
April 5, 2022RCC is in regular contact with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Canadian Poultry and Egg Processors Council (CPEPC) as a recent avian flu outbreak spreads in Southern Ontario. Effective immediately, retailers will require a new permit to move any finished poultry or egg products through or within new control zones.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has published the following map of two Primary Control Zones (PCZs) – near Kitchener-Waterloo and London, Ontario, respectfully – along with a description of each, the latter of which includes a section of Highway 401.
CFIA also posted a Notice to Industry that includes a link to the PDF form to request and obtain a General Permit to move items through or within these zones.
CFIA’s latest update also includes a page on movement controls with tables outlining situations which would require a permit.
The investigation is ongoing and RCC will continue to monitor and provide updates as the situation evolves.
