Alberta considers provincial pension and tax revenue agency

The United Conservative Party (UCP) is considering establishing the Alberta Pension Plan that would create a provincial replacement for the Canada Pension Plan, in addition to establishing a provincial revenue agency to collect all Alberta taxes including personal income taxes presently collected by the federal government.

RCC has been advised that these strategies are particularly popular amongst UCP supporters as a way of diminishing what has been defined as “federal interference” and may see momentum when the legislative session resumes later in November as Premier Danielle Smith prepares to take the party into a provincial election in just 26 weeks. RCC will continue to monitor all Alberta legislative activity.
