Bank of Canada asks retailers to keep accepting cash

To ensure all Canadians have access to the goods and services they need, the Bank of Canada is asking retailers who have been encouraging touchless payment options to accept cash. There are many individuals who must pay with bills and coins. Retailers are being asked to accommodate people who may not have bank or credit card options available to them. RCC and our members recognize both sides of the issue and are constantly balancing the need for safety and hygiene against the need to make sure that consumers without other options are able to purchase badly needed supplies. The best advice is still to ensure that employees have access to single use gloves, hand sanitizer and that they avoid touching their face.
