New requirements for UV-radiating and ozone-generating devices

An Interim Order Respecting Ultraviolet Radiation-emitting Devices and Ozone-generating Devices was released by Health Canada on June 7, 2021 and comes into effect on July 6, 2021.
Under the order, many UV and ozone-generating devices used to control or destroy viruses and bacteria will be subject to safety and efficacy assessments and will have to be registered before they can be sold in Canada. Some items are exempt from registration but must still meet specific labelling conditions.
Retailers dealing with relevant products are asked to provide their input on this issue to Katrina Borodenko, Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs, at kborodenko@retailcouncil.org.
