Alberta fuel tax relief program extended

September 27, 2022

The Alberta government has announced that the province’s fuel tax relief program has been extended, and effective October 1, 2022, Albertans will be saving 8.5 cents on every litre of gas and diesel off the pump price. This is a reduction from the 13 cents per litre savings in place since April 1, 2022, when the province introduced a fuel tax relief program to help Albertans deal with higher fuel costs.

Reviewed quarterly, the program is designed to provide fuel tax savings as long as the average price of WTI is above US$79.99 per barrel. Albertans will save over $200 million over the next three months and continue to have the lowest provincial fuel tax in the country, at 4.5 cents per litre.
