B.C. government drops indoor mask requirements

March 11, 2022

B.C. will lift the indoor mask requirement for indoor public spaces at 12:01 a.m. PT on March 11, 2022.  The requirement will remain in spaces where health care is provided.  The mask mandate for public schools will be lifted when the students return from their spring breaks.

Dr. Henry urged the public to be kind, respectful and supportive of others (including workers) who choose to continue wearing their masks, and to continue to allow those who want space to have that space.

The Province noted that many COVID-19 Workplace Safety Plans require workers or others in the workplace to wear a mask.  Those plans will need to be amended in order for either customers or employees to not wear a mask.  The Order requiring COVID-19 Workplace Safety Plans will be lifted on April 8, 2022.  At that point, workplaces will transition back to their Communicable Disease Safety Plans.

The Order requiring proof of vaccination in restaurants, theatres, sports arenas, meetings and other circumstances will be lifted on April 8, 2022.  Dr. Henry noted that the proof of vaccination requirements surrounding international and national travel are likely to remain in place for some time.
