City of Victoria moves ahead with single-use reduction measures

April 19, 2022

Victoria Council has decided to move ahead with restrictions on more single-use items.

Three months after adoption of a bylaw, businesses would only be able to distribute single-use straws, utensils, stir sticks, and condiment packages (made of any material) only upon customer request. Nine months after passage, businesses would need to provide reusable containers, utensils, and cups for food and beverages consumed on-site. After 12 months (for take-out) and 24 months (for delivery and drive-through), businesses would be required to charge a 25 cent fee for any single-use takeout cup or container (with exemptions for free drinks and drink vouchers).
