WorkSafeBC amends regulation regarding reassignment of refused work

May 31, 2022

On August 22, 2022, an amendment to the B.C. Occupational Health and Safety Regulation will come into effect in regard to reassignment of refused work. This will apply to a circumstance where a worker refuses to carry out any work process with reasonable cause to believe that to do so would create an undue hazard to the health and safety of any person. The amendments require an employer to notify, in writing and with detail, any other worker being asked to perform the refused work – unless an investigation has been completed as described in section 3.12 of the regulation.
