WorkSafeBC announces preliminary 2024 premium rates
August 2, 2023On July 27, 2023, WorkSafeBC announced preliminary premium rates for 2024. Significant increases include:
- General retail rate (13.7 per cent);
- Supermarkets (16.9 per cent); and
- Movie theatres (20.5 per cent).
Notable decreases include restaurants (-6.3 per cent), convenience stores (-20 per cent), jeweller/eyeware/clock/watch (-20.8 per cent), and bicycle shops (-20.5 per cent).
RCC and other business associations have expressed concern in recent years that changes made by the government over the past three years will result in longer-term rate increases. WorkSafeBC’s presentation to employers projected a slight increase over each of the coming four years. This assumes no further significant changes to legislation and policy.
