Adjustment of preventive measure in the workplace in the province of Québec

June 7, 2021

Considering the improvements of the situation in Quebec and the success of the vaccination campaign, the Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) announced the easing of some measures relating to personal protective equipment (PPE) for employees based on the colour coded alert level

For businesses in yellow or green zone

  • Wearing a mask is optional for workers if the distance of two meters is respected OR if there is a physical barrier.
  • Wearing eye protective equipment is optional (unless another regulatory requirement makes it mandatory).
  • Cleaning shared tools and equipment is optional.
  • Working from home  is still recommended in the yellow zone, and a gradual return to the workplace is allowed in the green zone.

No changes are planned for retailers and businesses located in the orange or red zones.

The new measures can be consulted online (document in French), as well as a summary table (document in French).

These only affect WORKERS. The obligation to wear a face covering remains in force for customers across Québec.
