RCC Holiday Shopping Survey 2020

November 10, 2020

Now available: Comprehensive 137-page report details how consumers plan to shop holiday 2020.

Canadians to approach holiday shopping differently in 2020

Retail Council of Canada’s annual Holiday Shopping Survey 2020, conducted by Leger, asked over 2,500 Canadians from coast to coast about their intended behaviours around the upcoming 2020 holiday shopping season.

The ongoing uncertainty brought on by the pandemic has made Canadians less structured in their approach to planning and budgeting for holiday shopping.  Fewer have set a firm budget for holiday spending. Their changing lifestyles are reflected in the shifts in the types of product categories they intend to purchase.  How they research, buy and bring home merchandise is substantially different this year - a quarter of Canadians have begun their holiday shopping early because they are concerned about shipping delays and having the products they want in time.
