Edmonton called upon to address escalating violence in downtown
May 31, 2022Alberta Justice Minister Tyler Shandro has invoked Section 30 of the Police Act, giving the City of Edmonton two weeks to come up with a public safety plan to address the escalating violence in the City’s downtown, stating that “the people of Edmonton deserve better than what this city council is delivering”.
RCC members recognize the positive work of the Edmonton Police Service (EPS). However the EPS data shows crime in the city’s core has risen significantly in recent years. RCC will be reaching out to both the City and Provincial Minister to support including retail stores as part of enhanced strategies.
