Alberta fuel tax changes: Refund deadline set for Friday, April 1, 2022

March 29, 2022

As announced on March 7, 2022, Alberta will be providing relief for fuel and utility costs by reducing the fuel tax rate for gasoline and diesel to $0.00 per litre effective April 1 to June 30, 2022. Fuel sellers may apply for a refund of the fuel tax on eligible fuel types in tax-included inventory as of 12:01 a.m. on April 1, 2022 by completing a Fuel Tax Online Inventory Declaration Form. To qualify for a refund, a fuel seller must be able to support the physical inventory of gasoline and diesel on hand after the close of business on March 31, 2022, or before the opening of business on April 1, 2022.
