Alberta Health Order helps clarify workplace exposure rules

May 11, 2021

The new Alberta Health Order has been posted, providing additional clarity on under what situations a worksite could be closed for ten days due to a workplace outbreak.

Section 11 is the relevant part and defines a cluster as three or more documented cases of COVID-19 where an investigation determines that transmission has likely occurred at a workplace location between staff.

The section also states that a business must close all (or part of a workplace) location for ten days when a medical officer of health issues a closure order. This is important flexibly in particular for larger distribution centres and retailers where an outbreak has occurred and those employees have been isolated.
