BC requirement for cannabis retail stores to have non-transparent walls removed and online responsible-service training for employees mandated

June 18, 2020

BC has announced changes to the legal non-medical cannabis industry that will affect those with cannabis retail stores. The requirement that cannabis retail stores be enclosed by non-transparent walls has been removed, provided that non-medical cannabis products, packages and labelling cannot be seen from outside the store, in order to protect minors from exposure to the products and to enhance employee safety.

In addition, a new mandatory online responsible-service training program, Selling it Right, has been introduced, modeled after the Province’s Serving it Right Program for responsible liquor sales and service. Existing cannabis licensees and staff must complete the course by September 30, 2020. View more information.
