StatsCan: Canadian Survey on Business Conditions released

June 7, 2022

Statistics Canada released national and regional retailing data last week – specifically on business obstacles expected over the next three months by retailers.

Here are some takeaways and links for RCC members:

  • A slight minority, 42.5 per cent, of Canadian retailers expect the shortage of labour force to be an obstacle. This varies a lot by province, e.g 64.9 per cent in Quebec and 20.8 per cent in Newfoundland and Labrador
  • A slight majority, 52.4 per cent, of Canadian retailers expect rising input costs to be an obstacle. The percentage of retailers who think this is highest is in B.C., 69.7 per cent
  • A national table comparing retail to other key industries and how they view the same list of business obstacles
