Quebec mask requirements: Responsibility is now shared between retailers and citizens

September 10, 2020

Wearing a mask or face covering that covers the nose and mouth is mandatory in enclosed or partially enclosed public places for people age 10 and over (exception for medical conditions). Retailers must ensure that customers without masks may not enter the premise (unless exempt from masks all together).

FINES

Fines can go up to $6000.

From September 12th, the responsibility is shared to the consumer; they now can be directly fined by the authorities when they refuse to comply to sanitary measures.

For employees who work within two metres for more than 15 minutes in the same shift, employees must either have a plexiglass barrier or wear a procedure mask (not just a face covering) with either a visor or protection glasses.
